A Perfect Fall Day and an FO

November 15, 2009

A few weeks ago, J and I and our friends Sonia and Amy decided to go on a fall excursion.  We drove out together to visit a few orchards and a pumpkin patch.

We stopped in town to get some morning refreshments at local coffee shop before we headed out for the day.  J decided to check his email.

Of course, being so on top of things, I didn’t get any pictures of most of the rest of the day, including a pumpkin patch, an orchard, and an alpaca farm (yarn, woo!).  But, when we stopped for some roadside BBQ (yum) I did manage to get some pictures of J swinging on the tire swing there.  He loved it!

I know he doesn’t look happy in this picture, but I promise he liked it.

Either that or I enjoy toddler torture via tire swing.  You decide.

After J was done, I convinced Amy to take a ride too!

Oh, the green sweater J is wearing in these pictures is the one I was plotting to make him back here.  Go to Ravelry if you want the juicy details.

Pumpkin Hunting and a Maze

October 21, 2009

J and grandma and I did the usual fall activity, we went to the pumpkin patch.  This one was perfect for J, everything seems to be available in miniature.

There was the kid’s pumpkin patch where J found a pumpkin just his size.

And the corn maze was smaller, very manageable for his shorty legs.  He actually ended up loving the corn maze, we went through it twice, him leading the entire time.

There were larger pumpkins there of course, and J’s favorite activity was to give them a little drumming.

We had a great time.  In fact, it was so successful we are scheduling another visit to a pumpkin patch this weekend!  Maybe I’ll remember my real camera this time…

I’m a Bingo Loser

October 17, 2009

Joined my sister and her roommate for Bingo last night.  It was quite the experience.  There are many things I didn’t know about the game.  I feel so informed now.

The board I pictured was there, but there were also electronic bingo card things too.  (Think touch screen.)  Apparently that is so a person has double the bingo cards playing at once.  I call it cheating.

I, along with my player partners, did not get the trill of yelling “BINGO!”  This picture of my cards after someone yelled bingo gives you a good idea of how close I NEVER was.

Oh well, we had a good time.  (And parmesan goldfish too, those things are dangerously addictive!)

At the Zoo

September 5, 2009

Earlier this week, Aunt Lyndsay played hookie with J and I and went to the zoo.

I think Aunt Lyndsay enjoyed the monkey.

At the Zoo - 02Maybe a little too much?

I enjoyed watching Aunt Lyndsay amuse Jaxon while I sat around.

At the Zoo - 13Jaxon loves stairs.

Oh, and of course there were animals.

At the Zoo - 08And animal poo too!

My town can be interesting…

August 31, 2009

Most people would say that the city I live in is not so exciting.  Most of the time I would be one of them.  But tonight, while out with my sister, I was shown otherwise.

First was knitting at a local coffee shop.  Then we walked over a block over to dinner.  Falafel and hummus and pita.  Yum.  Then across the street for gelato.  I had the peanut butter.  Yum again.

As we were sitting out on the sidewalk, enjoying the warm night, a huge group of people riding by on bikes, most with Xtracycles.  And this guy.

Crazy Bike Downtown - 1

This is not a great photo, but you can see that his bike is double-decker.  So cool.  And there is a woman riding on the back (you can kind of see her).  But the best part was the stereo he had blasting while he rode around was the best part.

My next question: who was this group of people riding around downtown with very useful bikes?

At the Aquarium

August 27, 2009

About a million years month ago, J and I went to the aquarium on the coast.  J goes to the zoo all the time, and his favorite has always been the fish, so it was a good assumption that he would enjoy a whole complex of fish in tanks.  Plus, it was ten million over one hundred degrees in the valley, so a nice trip to the cool coast sounded perfect.  I think J loved it, I know I did!

Oregon Coast Aquarium - 07Crazy spiky, stripey fish.  (What? Did you really expect me to note their actual names?)

Oregon Coast Aquarium - 08The way they lit the sea horses made them practically glow, it was crazy.

Oregon Coast Aquarium - 11Jelly fish.  Squishy.  Glowy.  (Wait, is glowy a word?)

Oregon Coast Aquarium - 23J got to touch some sea life.

Oregon Coast Aquarium - 25Lazy seals.  Seriously.  I could have taken a video.  It would look just like this only with crowd noises.

Oregon Coast Aquarium - 40Crazy flapping birds.

Oregon Coast Aquarium - 37J was freaked out/totally amused by the crazy flapping bird.

Oregon Coast Aquarium - 67Fish swam over our heads.

Oregon Coast Aquarium - 82Jaxon played in the playground area.  On concrete fish, totally related to the aquarium.

A Cloudy Day at the Park – Video Essay

August 26, 2009

Okay, not an essay exactly, but there are videos!

Big kids are so…weird.

August 20, 2009

Or at least that is what it looks like J is thinking in these photos of him and two of my friend Katy’s kids while we were waiting for the shuttle to the Silverton Art Fair this weekend.  So cute, I just had to share.

IMG_0167

Doesn’t J look great in a hat?  Now only if he would keep it on for more than 5 seconds…

IMG_0169

And in case you noticed, yes, J is wearing a monkey on his back.  It is the item discussed in this post.  And it was totally useful (and scored me a few dirty looks, comments).  Win, win I say!

What?!?

Look at the sign, specifically #3… Am I missing something that gives that sign a different meaning? Your wisdom would be much appreciated…
