Our First Harvest

I haven’t mentioned my garden here yet.  Frankly, I am afraid everything will not produce fruit or die.  So, you will only hear about what I have attempted to grow if I am successful in producing food from it.

In that vein, I had my first harvest on Friday!  Berries!  They actually were already here when I moved here, all I had to do was keep the weeds away and watch them grow.  (No seriously, I only watered them once, and I probably didn’t have to, I was just out there.)

I picked a crap ton of strawberries.  I was surprised at how pretty they were.  I expected any strawberries I grew to be all lumpy and weird, but mostly they were shiny and big and red and perfect.

It is a little early yet for the raspberries, but there were just a few ready so I could get a taste of what was to come.

I have already sliced most of the strawberries up, or cut them up for J (who has had his fair shair already) and made biscuits for strawberry shortcake.

This is the first time I have ever grown my own food, and all I have to say is:  Yum.

You know, it’s subversive to grow your own food. Rock on.
