After a good bout of crying.

Renaissance Fair

September 28, 2010

J and Mom and I went to a renaissance fair, being the first time for each of us.  It was pretty much what I expected.  Costumes, accents, knights, maidens.  The usual.

The first thing we did when we got there was go to watch the Joust.  Here is our knight, waiting to compete.

I had never seen anything like it.  It was pretty fun!  Our knight seemed like the Brett Favre of the group (a little past his prime) but it was still fun cheering him on and booing the other knights as they rode by.

While we were watching the action, a maiden came by selling pickles.  I took a few pictures to share with you all because I was impressed with her alternate pickle storage.  I think you will be too.  😉

(Multiple angles to make sure you spot it AND see how amusing it is!)

Jaxon sat very still on my lap watching the “horsies!” (a sure sign he was  entertained).

It took him about 20 minutes to get tired of it and want to move on.  We left just as the knights were trying to slice heads of cabbage in half!

We wondered the booths, in search of something for J to take home.  We didn’t have any immediate luck and decided to stop for food.  We did what any decent person would do at a renaissance fair and got a turkey leg.

It was not nearly as big as I imagined it would be, but it was still plenty for the three of us (along with the two ears of corn we got to go with it).  YUM.

On the way out, my mom spotted the perfect souvenir (even though it was temporary) for Jaxon to take with him.  A dragon tattoo.

The lovely (costumed) folk that helped J apply his tattoo were impressed with how patient and still he was during the process.  I reassured them that this was not his first tattoo and he knew it was worth the wait!

The tattoo lasted only a few days, but that’s okay.  While he had it, he looked like a total badass.

Pumpkin Pie Pop Tarts

September 26, 2010

It’s like someone read my mind when they decided to make these (since almost every pumpkin food item must be mine).  As soon as I knew about them, I needed them IMMEDIATELY.

I sought them out for a few days.  Dropped a hint to many others to keep an eye out.  I finally found them at Target, yes!

I was so excited that I took a picture of them as soon as I got in the car.  (Yes I got three boxes, be jealous.)

The next weekend, I decided it was time for J to have his first pop tart.  Big moments like this need to be documented, obviously.

I assure you he enjoyed it very much, contrary to what his face might reflect.  I believe that face would be accurately translated to “Mom, stop taking my picture, you are interrupting my pop tart eating concentration!  Geez!”

Afternoon O’ Fun

September 23, 2010

This past Friday, I was able to leave work a bit early.  J and I decided to take full advantage.

We recently became members of the local children’s museum, so that was our first stop.

The fish ate J’s finger.  The blurry head makes it obvious he was thrilled about this.

Do you see this? The fish is EATING my finger! HILARIOUS!

Next there was a little boating.

Arrrrrrrr matey!

We found a room full of animals and hats and costumes.  J loves hats so he insisted that not only did we put on matching hats, but that we take a picture of it.

Activity not pictured: standing (for what felt like hours) in front of the tank with the turtle.  “Turtle!!!  There’s turtle!  Turtle’s belly!  Turtle is swimming!  Turtle go away!  Turtle come back!  Turtle!”  Eventually I had to drag him away from there for my own sanity.

We closed the place and had a blast (more pictures from a different visit soon!)

After that we hit the library for a quick visit (they were about to close soon).  Of course, there was playing there as well.

Yee Haw!

Well, there you go.  We had just a couple of hours, but fit in a LOT of fun!

He refused to nap at daycare yesterday.  This is what happened on the ride home…

Our summer mode of transportation

September 21, 2010

J and I bike to school/work as much as we can during the summer.  It’s lovely.  Here’s our ride.

In the morning, when it is a bit chilly, J enjoys getting tucked in.

When we get where we are going, he tends to want to keep his helmet on to look at the sights.

I admit that I am a fair weather rider, and as the weather turns, our ride will start to collect a bit of dust.  But while we can, we love it.

The tough life of a toddler…

September 19, 2010

It’s tough work lounging on the couch drinking milk and eating grapes.

Of course, this situation quickly deteriorated into silliness. (Click a picture to make it bigger.)

Since this interrupted a rousing game of fetch, Disco was NOT amused.
